Welcome to troubleshooting for Cable/Digital TV. Developed to help you with any potential issues you may have with your Cable and Digital TV Service, this is the place to go if something doesn't seem quite right.
I'm only getting channels up to 13.
You may have your signal type set wrong on your TV. There may be a button on the remote or the TV, which says CATV (which stands for Cable TV). It must be in the CATV mode. CATV is a setting on your TV. There are two settings, either AIR or CATV. When your TV is set to AIR you will only receive the first 13 channels. When you have the setting on CATV you will receive all the Cable channels. There is a two-step process to get the TV set correctly on CATV. You have to be sure the TV is set to the CATV setting and then run the AUTOPROGRAM feature on the TV set as well. Once both these steps have been completed you will be able to receive all of the Cable channels you subscribe to.
The sound is not matching the picture.
You may have SAP (which stands for Secondary Audio Programming) set instead of Stereo in the audio settings on your TV. This can be found on the 'menu' of the TV. It is a setting that can be turned on or off on your TV. Some channels broadcast in Secondary Audio. Most people do not realize that the SAP is turned on unitl the channel starts broadcasting in Secondary Audio. Often the Secondary Audio plays on the Weather Channel or on Newsnet channels or on CBC. You need to use the 'Menu' function on your TV to change the audio settings and turn off SAP.
I have a humming noise on my Digital TV.
You may be working two audios instead of one and they need to be set as one. It may be because the volume on the TV set and the Digital Box are both turned up too high. There are two volume settings, one for each piece of equipment. Try turning down the volume on the TV to about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way up, then adjusting the Digital Box volume to a comfortable listening level.
All of my channels are snowy on my Digital TV.
Your TV or VCR may be on the wrong channel to properly receive the signal from the Digital Box. The power for your VCR might be turned on and it may need to be turned off. Depending on where you're located, your TV must be on channel 3 or 4 and the VCR must also be on the corresponding channel to match the TV.
I'm not able to tape my Digital TV channels.
The VCR and /or TV may be on the wrong channel. The most common symptom is getting a blue screen on the recorded tape. Depending on where you're located, your TV must be on channel 3 or 4 and the VCR must also be on the corresponding channel to match the TV. Program the VCR to tape channel 3 or 4 depending on where you're located. Set the Digital Cable Box to the channel you wish to tape. If you wish to tape a channel while watching another, you may need an A/B switch if your TV does not have video options. If the problem is with recording and watching the same channel, settings on the VCR need to be checked to be sure you are recording the proper channel and that the Digital Box is turned on while recording.
All my digital channels are saying 'one moment please'.
There may be a signal issue preventing us from receiving or sending programming; however, the issue may be corrected by resetting the receiver box. Try powering off, then back on the Digital TV box receiver. It may take a few moments for the box to reset. Once complete programming lists may not be available right away and will take a few moments to reload and be visible on your menu screen-programming should be available. If your are still receiving the "one moment please" message on multiple channels, there may be an issue receiving signals which is preventing programming from being us from displayed. If this occurs, please contact a member of the
Eastlink Service and Repair team
I have locked my channels on my Digital Box and can't remember my code.
If this occurs, please contact a representative of our Service and Repair team. A representative will be able to remotely reset your Digital TV receiver box. Once the receiver box has been remotely reset any selections you entered will no longer be available and will have to be re-entered. Please re-enter your password and any program selections you want blocked. You can chose the same password you had previously or another password.
